Bloom Where You Are Planted!

As I was reading blogs this morning, I was stirred by the post made by Mari about blooming where you are planted. I've been thinking about this for the last month or so and this morning I've been given a great reminder that God has a plan for me right now - right where I am at this moment in time. I'm right where I need to be today - tomorrow I may be in a different place.

I was reminded of a song that I sang as a child and I sing it to myself once in a while. It's called "Tree Song" - here are the lyrics (I can't find the music for it yet):

I saw a tree by the riverside one day as I walked along.

Straight as an arrow and pointing to the sky growing tall and strong.

"How do you grow so tall and strong?" I said to the riverside tree.

This is the song that my tree friend sang to me:

Chorus:

I've got roots growing down to the water,

I've got leaves reaching up to the sunshine,

and the fruit that I bear is a sign of the life in me.

I am shade from the hot summer sundown.

I am nest for the birds of the heavens.

I'm becoming what the Lord of trees has meant me to be:

A strong young tree.

I saw a tree in the wintertime, when snow lay on the ground.

Straight as an arrow and pointing to the sky, winter winds blew all around.

"How do you stay so tall and strong?" I said to the wintertime tree.

I saw a tree in the city streets, where buildings blocked the sun.

Green and lovely I could see it gave joy to everyone.

"How do you grow in the city streets?" I said to the downtown tree.

TREE SONG©words and music by Ken Medema

What does the "Lord of trees" mean for you to be??

Bloom wherever you are planted today, tomorrow, and always!

Be a blessing today!

I love the pictures you put with that. Would you believe that Ken Medema wrote that song for a Young Peoples convention I went to in 1977? He was there and taught us the song and I've always liked it. Thanks for another take on blooming where you are planted.

I love that song! I haven't heard it a VERY long time. I remember singing it and doing the motions along with it.

I think the most amazing thing about that song is that the man who wrote it has been blind from birth. He gives such a great description of the beautiful trees that he has never seen with his own eyes.

Thanks for the reminder to be what the Lord of the trees wants us to be!
